interview with actor Zohaeb Farooqui
1-. How was your childhood?
I was born into a film family where my father is a producer who has produced a couple of Indian films. So, I was exposed to the lights, camera, and action background by birth. My childhood involved a lot of movie sets and shooting. It was a fun way to grow up, but I learned and grasped a lot in the process. For me, everything was just cinema, cinema, and only cinema.
2-. From what age did you decide to be a actor and filmmaker and how did you know you had the skills to go on TV?
Like I said, I was already exposed to film sets by birth, so shooting and everything was a normal thing for me. However, I was an extremely shy person. My parents decided to shift me to a boarding school in my 7th grade, which turned out to be a life-changing experience for me. During our freshman introduction, my then principal asked me to write and perform a skit. That was it—after that, there was no looking back.
3-. Did your parents support you in the decision you made to be an actor?
Yeah! Yeah! They were super supportive of my decision. Without them, nothing would have been possible. I’m blessed to have them.
4-. What was your first appearance on the screens?
My first appearance was as a child artist in a music album, which was a patriotic song. I have a vague memory of it. It was an influential song featuring all Indian movie stars. A lovely album.
5-. What was the role you liked the most?
I liked my debut role. It was in the Indian web series Inspector Avinash, where I played a local college youth leader. The experience was fun, and I learned a lot from it.
6-. What do you think led you to Fame?
I genuinely don’t know. I think I have a long way to go. So, let’s keep our heads down and just work and enjoy the process.
7-. What types of characters you would like to interpret?
All of them!!!
8-. What actresses and actors do you feel confortable working with?
I’m comfortable working with everyone. The best part of our job is meeting new talent and innovative artists.
9-. In what other genres of art would you like to participate? (Works of theater, music, among others)
At this stage of my life, I just want to be a part of everything. For me, the glass is half empty. The more I work, the more I learn.
10-. Do you have any anecdotes that have marked you in your life and as a person?
Our line of work is very unpredictable. So, the best thing is to just go with the flow, work hard, and improve and polish your skills.
11-. What has been your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement is yet to come.
12-. What projects will you make next and which ones do you have in mind?
There are a couple of projects. As of now, I can only talk about my web series Inspector Avinash Season 2, which is just around the corner. It was a hugely acclaimed series in India and won an award last year. For the rest, when the time is right, I’ll make the announcements.
13-. Would you like to make a movie in Spain?
Honestly, I’m dying to! To all the Spanish producers and directors out there, if you’re reading this—just cast me!
14-. You like Spanish cinema?
I love it! I started watching Spanish cinema after Money Heist. Spanish culture and its cinema caught my attention. I have huge respect and admiration for the talent and artists of Spain.
