Interviewing actress Meryem Basar
1-. How was your childhood?
Chaotic, to say the least.
2. - From what age did you decide to be an actress and how did you know you had theskills to go on TV?
I’ve always had the desire to become either an actor or a writer, but I‘m certain it started when I first saw Tom Hanks on screen. The way he portrays each character is outstanding and made me think “I wish that someday, I’ll be able to touch people with my acting the same way Tom Hanks does”.
3. - Did your parents support you in the decision you made to be an actress?
Not from the beginning. Let’s say they weren’t too thrilled when I first mentioned it. Later on, when they first saw me on stage, they changed their mind though.
4. - What was your first appearance on the screens?
It was a pretty embarrassing commercial about a German insurance agency.
5. - What was the role you liked the most?
It was Ilse from the German play “Frühlingserwachen“. She’s flirty, confident, but at the same time, completely lost.
I was also fond of Goethe’s Mephistopheles, since that creature gives you a thousand ways of portraying them. The devil comes in many forms after all.
6.- What do you think led you to fame?
I‘m nowhere near what anyone would call famous, and to me, that’s not a bad thing ;)
7-. What types of characters you would like to interpret?
I like complex characters. No one is fully pure, nor are we fully evil. For example: I’d love to experience on set or on stage what makes a Nazi human, yet so inhumanely evil.
8-. What actresses and actors do you feel comfortable working with?
Down to Earth people who haven’t forgotten about what it’s like to have nothing.
9-. In what other genres of art would you like to participate? (Works of theater, music, among others)
I love acting on stage, and I am also a German voice actress, meaning I get to play characters everyday.
10.- Do you have any anecdotes that have marked you in your life and as a person?
Too many to count, but what I experience with each passing day is: life goes on, with or without the things you wanted.
11.- What has been your greatest achievement?
Not losing my mind in the middle of chaos.
12.- What projects will you make next and which ones do you have in mind?
Not sure if I am allowed to talk about it, but I want it to be fun and challenging.
13.- Would you like to make a movie in Spain?
Any day of the week.
14.- you like spanish cinema?
As a huge fan of Pedro Almodovar, I can say: absolutely.
